Let's Go Hokies!!!

Tonight is the end of college football season for us dedicated Hokie Fans as they take on Michigan in the Sugar Bowl.  Bourbon Street is one of if not the coolest place I have ever been when I went wit my girls (Jill, LK, Gurveen) back in 2003 when we played Auburn.  This year quite the different scenario, 35 weeks preggo tomorrow, not quite in Bourbon Street condition haha.  But, I did give Eric the green light multiple times until he finally believed me that I wanted him to go, he has been such an amazing hubby throughout this entire pregnancy I figured he deserved a little man trip, plus let's be honest I'd be there if I could be.

This has been a great season, minus the two Clemson beat downs ha, and we have enjoyed watching all of the games with our Hokie friends!  Soooo excited for the program to be asked to play in the Sugar Bowl and can't wait to watch Logan Thomas, David Wilson, and does it all Danny Coale!

The Burg

Well this weekend was let's say innnnteresting!!  The anticipation was mounting, I could barely sleep Friday night as we were to leave at the crack of dawn Saturday morning. We saw a ton of cars on the way with their flags and magnents and everything else, it was just so exciting.  We took Callie with us because we weren't able to get the usual room at the Hilton and would be spending the night at the Days Inn where they allowed dogs.  Anywho, exit 118 here we come!!!!

 Well I have never been one that is "too good" for a certain hotel or whatever, but when we arrived at the Days Inn that was pretty suspect.  Eric found the perfect place for people to hide our bodies out back, I felt terrible and had anxiety all day after leaving Callie there and needless to say when we got back and tucked ourselves into our lovely beds there was a bug crawling on my arm, def had to get my dad to kill it, gross!!!

We headed out to the tailgate, early, like noon - game time 6:00.  Tailgating was fun, definitely a different experience sober, much colder, and it lasts MUCH longer.  We started out in the TOTS lot where Colleen (Courtney's sister) and Benny (my mom's friend) set up camp, this made for easy mingling and great food, especially the famous chicken we never stopped hearing about.

We then moseyed over to Lot 2 where some of Eric's email/recruiting friends were having a tailgate.  Here is where things got eh.  The bathroom line was 100 miles long, the sun went completely away- aka freezing, by now I had been standing and walking for about 4 hours, and then what do you know RAIN!!  At least there were super cute cupcakes, right?!??!

 

Well lucky us, I have an awesome dad that has box seats, so as the rain started coming down, inside we went...ahhh the fireplace, food, and drinks neat-o, oh and our very own bathroom- this was shaping up to be a good night after all.  Game time was nearing, I got a seat right in front for Enter Sandman, which if I say so myself is the greatest entrance in all sports.  The entire stadium was jumping up and down, if that doesn't get your adrenaline pumping I don't know what does.  Amazing entrance- Wow this was great.  And thennnnn the game started.  DISASTER ZONE!!!!  Our offense terrible, we may have the worst punter every in the history of football, and our coaching staff- well they leave something to be desired.  Total disappointment all around...

FUNNY-NESS: Dad, Eric, and I are walking back to my dad's car and there is a cop in the street directing traffic.  Dad goes, "are you a cop??  Well there is a bunch of people over there that need to be arrested for trying to impersonate a football team, they all need to go to jail."  Haha he is so funny :)

And back to the Days Inn we go....

It's the best time of the year!!!!

Today marked the beginning of College Football Season!!  A fantastic start, so good to see Kirk again, great food, and most importantly a Hokie Win, well more of a Hokie Slaughter.  After a few major loses while watching the game at the Wahlquist's we decided we were cursed to watch the game together.  Well apparently the torrential downpour during Eric and Will's birthday party washed that curse right on out the door, thank goodness!!!  The Curse has been broken!!  Per Will's tradition everyone takes a shot of Wild Turkey prior to kickoff...Hokie Hokie Hokie High, Tech Tech VPI....

 The Hokies played amazing, offense, defense, and special teams!!!  It's been a long time since we had such a fun and relaxing start to the season!!  And what I learned is David Wilson is AWESOME!!!!

 

Could ask for a better way to start the season!!!

Being a DC fan

Here is a prime example of what it is like to be a DC fan.  Nationals are on a roll, 3-0 vs the Cubbies, and up 8-0 in the 5th inning of this game.  Then what do you know, the Cubs tie it up, the go up by one, the Nats tie is back up, and in the final inning the Cubs go ahead and win the game...

We did have a great time though with Gargs and his gf Jenn.  This was the first time I have had the opportunity to meet Jenn and it was such a pleasure.  What a fun duo!!  It was such a beautiful night for a game, and we were surrounded by Ashburn people!!!

 

 

to the Races...

Eric and I have this new thing this summer of not making plans, it's great!!!  We chill and we do what we want and when we want to do it, so stress free and peaceful.  Except for my trip to Miami and our two beach weeks we really have nothing nada zilch on the calendar!!!

Last week, Jimmy and Crystal were up at Summit Point for Jimmy's car racing hobby.  I had never been to a car race before, it was pretty cool!!  We got to watch the race from the tower right next to the checker flags.  Well due to our presence I am sure, Jimmy came in first place!!!  Eric caught the video!!

9 wasn't enough

Before we could even get off the course pretty much Eric was booking us a tee time for 18!!  Whoa!!  That is a long day, like 4 hours of trying to pay attention.  It was a beautiful day though and we played early before it was scorching.  On my first 18, I shot a 129...don't tell my grandparents that (they will not be impressed) but I am happy with my first score, not to mention Eric and I had a blast!!

Now I get it....

After today I understand the frustration, pure relaxation, and feeling of success that comes with the game of golf!!  We met Chris at 1757 to hit some balls at the driving range...

The driving range surprisingly went pretty well, so we went to Brambleton golf Course and played 9 holes!!  I think 9 holes is plennnnty for me, I found myself going in and out of focus very often just on 9, 18 I can only imagine.  I would have 4, 5, 10 bad hits followed by 2 or 3 that make you feel awesome!!  So I get it, I get the addiction, plus being able to be outside on such a gorgeous day with two of my fave guys, great day!!!

 

And of course one of my favorite parts of the experience was driving the cart!!!

Special Moments :)

Melissa asked Eric to escort her on her senior night for Lacrosse!!  He was so excited, he had the whole day planned out, outfits packed, and even left a little early to pick up some beautiful orange roses.  I can't believe Melissa is a senior already :)

 

 

CONGRATULATIONS MELISSA on 4 AWESOME years, can't wait to come watch you next year at Mary Washington!!!!

Let the Madness Begin...

I am not a huge college basketball fan however at March Madness I love it.  Eric and I have both filled out brackets and we also joined this other thing where you can win up to a thousand bucks based on the scores of each game, very excited about this and can't wait to see how it all turns out.  For this challenge we have 2 boxes and need:

And lastly our adult team lost last time in the semi-finals, so sad :(

Seems like we are always in the same situation.  Take just the Florida State game for instance, we lose, then it's reviewed, then we win.  The emotional roller coaster a Hokie rides on in a life time is un-be-livable.  Football and Basketball alike.  Today I feel so sad for Delaney and Allen.  As an athlete myself, it is the worst when your season is over.  NIT is not good enough and for the fourth season in a row that's where our bubble spot leaves us.  This year especially after beating Duke who was the number 1 team in the country and winning two games in the ACC tournament, Hokies across the nation were putting their dancing shoes on....but yet once again, the Hokies are let down.

And what's worse than not making the tournament is listening to all of the announcers talking about how Tech and Colorado should be in and how the committee has made a terrible decision to not have them in it.  My question, who the *$%# is on this damn committee??  Do they know anything about basketball??

Friday Thoughts!!

Thoughts and Prayers are with the people of Japan affected by the Tsunami.  I sent an email to Jessica who is obviously on the west coast this morning saying stay safe and her response was, "we are due for a big earthquake."  She cracks me up, miss ya girlie!

Hokies played great last night!  We went over the Mr and Mrs Bullocks (haha) house, seems to be our lucky spot.  Will be heading back over there tonight to watch the Hokies vs the Seminoles.  Let's GOOOOO....HOKIES!!!

When sending an email to HR/Recruiting wouldn't you check to be sure you spell their name right, since most likely you are asking for a job???  When you write, "to brook" and right above, maybe an inch, is my email address where it is spelled out specifically "king_brooke@aac.com" you really look like an idiot...come on people THINK!!!  The E is not as silent as you think!!!!!

Congratulations to Julia on getting a new apartment, will see ya in the am to help move stuff :)

I am really ready for spring, and to plant flowers!

My clothes are looser and Eric is out of belt loops!! Must have something to do with our workout routine from this week.  Now if we can just be good this weekend!!  Should be easier since Sonya is working at the winery all weekend and won't be making us awesome food all day!!  My dress came yesterday for VEGAS, so I know what I need to do to pull it off!!  The Biggest Loser competition has been great motivation for me, aiming to be down 10+ at next Friday's weigh in!

I love my hubs, he's so funny and cute!!  Always laughin and smilin :)

 

I am soooooooooooo excited for Sushi tonight!!  Eric and I are squeezing in a quick (like real quick) sushi date/trip before heading over to Courtneys for the game!!!

I love love love when 99.5 does a Friday mix from the good old days and plays Biggie!!  That puts me in such a good mood on the way to work!!  Biggie biggie biggie can't you see, sometimes your words just hypnotize me...

Sheen Shennangians- Of course I have the latest update on my favorite star!!  Last night his house was raided because of a call claiming he had a gun in the house which violates his restraining order by the ex.  Only an antique rifle was found, Sheen is a-ok!!  Can't wait to hear what he does next!!!

And lastly, if you aren't turning, turn off your damn BLINKER!!!!!!

Tuesday Tuesday

I love when the work week starts on Tuesday or ends on Thursday!!  4 day weeks are the best but 3 day weekends are even better.  This weekend was great!  My little girls team came out to play, it's so rewarding as a coach to be like ohhhhh they were listening and they seem to finally get it.  It's clicking and what perfect timing, this past weekend which wrapped up the regular season and put us in the playoffs!!  Saturday we beat a team that we had lost to 3 times previously, and Sunday we lost to Vienna (also known as the 10 &U dream team) but it was CLOSE, wayyyy closer than the 42-6 at the beginning of the season.  Winning on Saturday clinched it for us, we play Mercer next Saturday, in the first round!  Aren't they so cute :)

Here are the gold, silver, and bronze medalist in the Fury Olympics we had at practice one night!! 

 This weekend, I also played in my first singles tennis match is almost a year, WHOA!  That is a lot of running.  Won 6-0, 6-3 though yippppeee- def made it worth the 3 hours I spent in the car to get there.  Weekend also consisted of some gal time while Eric hosted Scotch fest at our house Friday night, followed by Sausage fest Saturday night at the Farrell's, needless to say there was A LOT of meat there.

Yesterday was Presidents Day.  My boss said we could work if we wanted to but I decided to take the day off and am so glad I did.  Usually when we have a 3 day weekend Eric and I pack it full of activities or go out of town, but not this time.  My holiday was amazingly productive, was done with Target and Wegmans by 10am, 4 loads of laundry, house cleaned, went to the art store- just to realize I don't care that much about art, made dinner, and watched some TV.  TV is really boring during the days I realized, I tuned into GH, I used to be obsessed, like planned my classes in college around GH obsessed, then I gave up on it.  However, when I watched yesterday the show was at the exact same spot as I left off last time, Sonny and Brenda getting married hahaha- ohhhh soaps!  Oprah was awesome and all about Vegas, got me pumped!!!!  Then we had practice, which was just okay, the girls were nutso, will need to simmer down the goofing around for Thursday's practice!

To close out the weekend, Eric and I watched the Social Network, loved it!!

a trip down memory lane....

I graduated from Oakton High School in 1999, Whitney then graduated in 2005, and I would have to say 2005 was probably the last time I have been back.  As you know Whitney and I are now coaching our sister Taylor's travel team.  Tonight we decided it would be fun to take them to the Oakton game to 1. show them what it's like at the next level and 2. to show them our names on the wall so maybe they will start listening to what we say haha:)  Anywho, what a weird feeling it was walking back into a gym where I spent hours upon hour upon hours and had memories on the court and off that court that will last a life time.  I would soooo go back and do it again in a second if I could.  Stinks those 4 years go by so fast, nothing else quite compares.  The girls all got to sit behind the Oakton bench and afterwards Priester took them all into the locker room where they were able to get autographs from the girls on the team.  I think they all had a great time, hopefully some of the energy will show up in OUR game on Sunday!!

Needless to say Oakton was awesome!!!  They got the ball down the court soooo fast, way faster than I ever remembered getting my butt down the floor haha!!  Good luck to the Cougars in the district tournament coming up!!

Super Bowl Bound

So sad that football season is almost over, but last nights AFC and NFC Chanpionships were some awesome games!!  This year, like every year no Redskins in the superbowl so I am pulling out my cheese head and riding the Aaron Rodgers bandwagon all the way to the Super Bowl this year!!!  GO PACK!!!!

Should be an AWESOME super bowl 45!!!!!

Eric and Rocco gone hunting.....

Eric met Chris and Mike at the farm to join them in their annual after Christmas hunt.  Eric had a great time and was quite successful apparently.  Rocco didn't get it really, he would run over to the goose and then be looking back for his ball, this I am quite happy about, he will remain my sweet cuddly little boy!!!

WOW!!! Last night was a thriller, we're down then we're up, then GT is on a run with 2 minutes left, we hold on to win, everyone rushes the field, enter sandman is played with minutes left and the crowd is going crazy....ahhhh sooo awesome!!! Of course I was at my neighbors watching it on tv because I am a goody goody and didn't want to miss two days of work (essentially) to go down there, Eric did go with Big Bill. Well this goody goody has gotten her priorities straight and won't be missing anymore of these games!!! There is really NOTHING like blacksburg on a Thursday night after a big win wow wow wow wow!!!!!


And PS- David Wilson is my HERO!!!!

festive weekend

Started off Friday night with a pumpkin carving party, hosted by us!! All the neighbors came over with pumpkin in hand, we enjoyed chilli and hot apple cider followed by a pumpkin carving competition and ending with none other than a game of celebrities!! Photo details below...

expecting that or I would have gotten more trophies haha :)

And then there were 5, the competition was so close we left it up to a facebook vote to determine the winner...

And collecting the most votes from the very un-biased facebook community was...THE REDSKIN!!!

Saturday started with a Tech blow out over Duke which was awesome! Thanks Marstin for having us over :) We had a great time, and the subs and entertainment were top notch!!

Dinner at Deb's for Mike's Bday- steak, king crab legs, shrimp, mmmmmm:) Happy Birthday Mike!!

Then A-town Bound for a fabulous Halloween Party!!!

And on Sunday the Skins won and D-Hall is the man!!! A great great great weekend filled with fam, friends, some awesome food, good times, fires, pumpkins, costumes, and fabulous football...doesn't get much better than that!!!
